Best Jack Stands
Who makes the best jack stands? AC Hydraulics makes some nice ones. Does anyone have any other favorites?

Hi Lew:
I think that one aspect of a jack stand you should consider is the shape of the weight bearing pad which comes in contact with your frame members. Some have flat bearing pads and others have a V shaped or cupped convex pad. If you have round tube chasis on your cobra then a convex or cupped pad would be best. I am using the brand from AutoZone. They are the 3000 pound units with the slightly convex pad. They work well, are stable, and are coated well and they are large. I tie wrapped some shop cloths to them so as not to mar the powder coated frame on the ERA. Cheers... |

Good point. The ACs have nice concave pads. |

"Jackstands...they don't move, they don't talk, they don't cook... they just sit there for a while." The car is lighter than any of the generic spec's. Why, then would I pay several hundred dollars for a set? When you wrap the heads with cloth, as we all do, what does it matter how the tips are finished. Found a nice set at Home Depot with concave tips... fits the tubes fine.... about $20 a pair or so. Put the rest of the $$$ in something that moves. :p Now, about the jack those guys have....hmmm |
I own a set from Griots Garage, with a set of their jack pad covers. Nicely made, easy to adjust.

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...threadid=46883 If you jack it too high in front the rear will hit or not give you the clearence to get a jack under the rear. I bought the jack first and measured for the stands. The stands work on their lowest settings. The jack will go under the tank and contact the lift point in front of the tank. Works real good. AC jack was the lowest and deepest I found. The 4" frame pipe sets right in the stand cups. I have young kids running around so lateral support was important. I doubt the car could be knocked of the AC stands. |
