Welder advice wanted

I am new to welding, so simple is better. I plan to weld 16swg steel, but want to be able to handle thicker down the road. Would a Lincoln SP135T handle this? Is there another welder that I should consider? I would love to be able to convert to TIG, but I have been told many times that MIG is the way to go. I would like to be able to weld a frame if the need arises.

Thanks,

I've owned and used an older version of that welder for about 8 years. I also have a TIG machine, but it's just so easy to grab the simple little MIG.
I would recommend the SP-135 Plus over the one you mentioned. The model you refer to has a 4-stage tap switch to change voltage. The 135 Plus has a continuous variable control to change it. The variable control was not offered when I bought mine, but I often wish I had it.

The 135 will do a good job for you on mild steel. You need to practice a lot on scrap before you weld anything important. It helps a lot if you know someone who's a competent welder to help you practice, otherwise you tend to keep making the same mistakes over and over.

The MillerMatic 135, MIG. 120 Volts. Up to 3/16th. Check it out also. I think they are still around $500.00.
