Need advise for fender undercoating???
Happy New Year to ALL!!
I'm trying to figure out whats the best way to protect underneath my front and rear fenders on my FFR Cobra from rock damage. I've seen several 3M spray undercoatings being sold on E bay. Anybody got any experience with this or any other advise would be great.:D

I've been using the spray can Truck bed liner, has worked for me over the course of all six Cobras I've owned. On my FFR's, I spray the entire wheel well with it, aluminum panels and all. Gives it a nice finished look along with keeping down the noise of the road debris bouncing around the wheel wells while driving down the roads on NJ.

Given the abuse my Line-X (like Rhino Liner) bed liner takes from cinder blocks, etc. in my F-350, I'd have to say those spray-on bed liners are virtually indestructible, and would think hard to beat. Wish my builder had used it, and no question what I'd do next time.

I will look in to the bed liner spray. Is there any particular brand thats better than the other?( Rhino?)

Rhino Liner!
It's the nut.
Just before you put the body on, paint with a paintbrush everything exposed, but not painted.( everywhere you want it to be )
Highly recommended.

Another vote for bed liner. I used Herculiner, it's a roll on using a textured roller. Very nice finished look, and tough.

Is it sacrilegious to apply undercoating to an aluminum car? Did the original cars have any undercoating?

Well, I guess you could consider it to be sacrilegious, but I just think it is a good practic.

I don't know if I could bring myself to cover the aluminum. Thanks for the heads up on the bedliner though!! I've been wondering what I was going to do in those areas.

Yep..your right. I plan on just coating the fiberglass and leaving the metal bare. I don't think theres any reason to cover over the aluminum since I'm only interested in protecting the glass.

Make sure you wear some latex gloves when applying that stuff, it won't wash off.

McMaster Carr or MSC sells a close cell foam with adhesive backing that works well in fender wells. Stops any possible stars from forming on the outside. Works of glass or aluminum, cause both will be pinged by rocks hitting the underside of the fender. Will last for years for a casually driven car.

Thanks, I don't think I've ever heard of this stuff. Does it come in black or is it just the color of regular foam?
