Cooling system overflow
My car developed a symptom recently (since engine replacement) whereby after a good hard ride, I hear a loud gurgling sound almost immediately after I shut her down. It has something to do with coolant entering the puke tank. I don't have a problem with this, but twice now, coolant has spewed from the overflow hose on the puke tank. In both instances, about a half cup of coolant has been ejected under the car. The car runs cooler than a cucumber all the time. Even at shutdown I'm in the 160 degree area. Any ideas?

Tony,
You haven't perhaps overfilled it a little have you? That sounds exactly like what happened to me about a year ago when I was not paying attention and decided to top off the radiator without checking. I use a cheap plastic overflow so I can see the level and the hot and cold marks now. The gurguling sound was caused by the overflow tank filling and starting to force air and water out the overflow tube onto the ground.

Ron, I'm sure you're right. The engine shop filled the system when the new motor was installed. I guess the coolant level will eventually equalize and the problem will go away. I will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks.

Tony,
I would try changing your rad cap to a new 16 lb one. The pressure is releasing too fast in your case.

I just noticed mine doing this a couple days ago too.....Runs cool as can be....don't even have to use the electric fan.....then immediately after shutoff (after a good period of running) it gurgles for about 2-3 seconds.
I have a Jaz plastic overflow bottle....is the sound I'm hearing just air/fluid exiting/entering the overflow? Nothing ever exits the overflow bottle though....nothing on the ground.

Tony, mine was caused by loose head bolts letting combustion gasses into coolant passage. Try retorquing heads. chuck
