Is this distributor installation correct?

I'm a little unsure about how my distributor hold down looks...the nut does not land flush ... is this correct?

Also how tight does the o-ring seal on the manifold...mine is not really snug like I though it would be. Here is a bigger view of the above picture

Something doesn't look right...you sure your distributor is down all the way? It's either out of the cam gear or not down on the oil pump drive. I'm trying to look at some pics of my small block....and I think that hold-down sits flush with the intake.

Looks ok to me. I think it's just where the bend is in the hold down that makes it look funny. I think the bend is usually on the other side of the bolt so you have a level surface for it to tighten down on.

Your distributor is not down all the way - try loosening the hold down and turn the rotor until it engages the oil pump drive....

Here is a picture of mine.

There is a groove down on the distributor body that the "O"ring fits into, it doesn't go under the flange.

Intake Manifold

I see you're using the cork end gaskets on the intake manifold. Although they do seal, they are more easily apt to develop leaks; especially as the cork gasket dries out from the heat of the engine.

Experience has shown, and the guys in here can correct me if I'm wrong, that it's better to not use the cork gaskets. Most guys, myself included, just lay a 1/4" bead of black silicone along the front and rear rail surfaces where the manifold meets the block. You have to be sure to place an ample amount of the silicone in the corners. The silicone won't dry out and seems to provide a better seal.

Since you already have it assembleb, I would leave it alone for now. But if you ever have to pull the intake, I would suggest not using the corks.

This is just my opinion.

Tony
