New??? Used ones (1M) casting # should be readily available or through a volume engine rebuilder or many other sources, even ocassionally on EBAY. If you want NEW, you will most likely need to have it made by a crank shaft manufacturer, such as Crower, Cola, perhaps Scat or others......??
Have not seen any NOS 289 cranks. A used crank will clean up at .010, .020, or as much as .030, undersize on the rods and still be larger than a small block Chevy so rod journal strength is ok at that size. Du to the small blocks inherantly good oiling system and the short stroke the cranks don't get beat up too bad, so finding a usable core should not be a problem. Good luck Rick |
Ordered five 287 billet steel crank from Crower with friends minimum order, cost 2500$ and 10 months to get but very good stuff!

Boss 302 crank?
I don't know if this will help you. Depends on how stock you want to be. I have a real Boss 302 forged steel crankshaft (DOZE-6303A) which has never been run. The main journals are standard for a 289 or 302 but the previous owner turned the rod journals to Chevy-size 2.100 (small journal) and destroked the crank to 289 specs. With Crower Sportsman rods ($517) you would end up with a "long rod" 289. The rods, according to Crower, are good to 600 HP and I was told by FRPP that this crank is good to 1200 HP. It has been inspected and Magnafluxed by my machine shop. I paid $425 for it but will accept less because I bought a FRPP 345 HP crate motor for a really good price so I'm not going to bother building an engine now. I have pictures. Crank is in Southern NH.
If interested, please send email to waynenorcross@yahoo.com |
I have a 10/10 crank if you're interested. It was ground and has never been in an engine. I was going to build a 289 for an SPF coupe but went with a 351 crate engine because of the header availability.
