Header Side Pipe Cleaning
I noticed in many of the pictures at last years spring fling the side pipes and headers look like new. How do you keep them from turning blue?
I have stainless pipes and headers oon my new machine which will be ready this spring. I was told to coat the interior of the pipes and headers with oil prior to the initial run in. Don't know if that is the right thing to do or not. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

Never used stainless, but I would imagine that the shiny coatings you are seeing are Jet Hot ceramic coated silver. There are also a number of shops around the country that do the ceramic coatings. The ceramic coating can tolerate the heat without changing color. You can also use a good metal or aluminum polish to keep them shiny. My guess is that uncoated stainless would change color given the heat those pipes are exposed to. |
Pipe cleaning

I have all stainless side pipes and I use "Chrome Bright" pickeling paste. It is used to remove the stains from welds when stainless is welded. I dilute it with water and it takes the gold color stains right off. Rinse off with water as soon as the stains are gone. Wear rubber gloves and be carefull not to get it on anything else as it is acid. Brings the pipes up like new. Cheers, Bryan |
