Engine Sensors
I'm putting the finishing touches on my engine and I am wondering about sensors...Oil Pressure, Temp, etc... Which ones do I need to buy, where on the engine do they go?
I figure the oil temp guage probably screws into my oilpan. Where does oil pressure go? engine temp? |

What engine? Ford small block picks up on the left front just behind the timing cover and just above the pan for the oil pressure and in the intake manifold for the water temp. Small block Chevy can be picked up in a few palces for oil pressure rear of the block front of the block but water is in the head or intake. Hope that helps. |

The sensors have to match your gauge set. If you are talking about an engine in your old Ford with stock gauges yes NAPA would carry them. If this is an engine for a Cobra kit the gauges you got for the car should have come with sensors. |
All the sensors come with the gages. You don't need to buy anything.
You'll need a place on the block or oil filter housing for a 1/8" pipe tap for the oil pressure gage, and 1/2" female pipe threads in the intake manifold and oil pan for the water and oil temperature probes. That's it. :MECOOL: |

One piece of advice which I picked up here. On the oil temp sensor, do not use teflon tape on the threads, it may prevent a proper ground and cause irratic readings. Get some of the teflon paste instead. Also, if you are using the remote oil filter, the block adapter has a port built into it to hook up the pressure gauge. |
Thanks Chappie...I have not used any teflon tape on my engine at all. I'm sticking to the tube stuff. My fileter adapter has an 1/8" female thread on top for the pressure sender
