351 Cleveland head ID
Hi all. I'm finally getting around to documenting all my engine info. Can anyone tell me where the casting numbers are on the 351c heads? Do I need to pull the valve covers?

Yes you need to pull the covers. The numbers are cast in the top of the head.

I think the number is cast on the underside of the intake ports.Since there is little difference between most 2v heads (as well as M heads), if you are trying to determine if it is a 2v or 4v head the early 2v heads and the 4v heads have either a 2 or 4 cast in the upper corner between the intake flange and the valve cover lip.

Woodz428 is correct about the casting numbers being underneath the intake ports. You will have to pull the heads to read them:CRY:

Pulled the valve cover - no casting numbers. But the "4" is there at the top corners of the heads and the "4" shows up in pictures of 4v heads in various books. I guess I have 4v heads!!!!
My cast iron intake casting number is "DOAE 9425-L" and is a 4v intake, so I can conclude I have 4v heads. Thanks all. Greg |
