Obviously I am doing something wrong!
This should not be this difficult so I am obviously doing something wrong.
New TOB and now I have to bleed my TOB (I really hate this part). Here is what I have: TOB master cylinder mounted on the outside of my foot box firewall and the reservior is mounted about 8" higher on my firewall behind my engine. The reservior feeds my master cylinder through a 3/8". The master cylinder is plummed to my TOB via a AN 4 braided SS line going directly to the brg's bottom fitting. The top fitting on the TOB is my AN 4 braided SS bleeder line. I have tried bleeding the brg with the car level, ass of the car up, and also with the ass of the car down and the front up. NO DIFFERENCE. I am using DOT 3 fluid and a mighty vac with teflon tape on all fittings including the bleeder screw. This should not be this fricking hard. By the way I have tried the two man method as well (pumper and bleeder). Time to re-examine my placement and installation of my Throw out Brg reservior and the plumbing. Something is wrong. Anyone have any secrets or wish to share there setup including placement of parts etc. Clois |
Remove the line and put a pressure gauge at the hose.
If you can not build pressure, the pump may not be working. Dirty as this may sound, it may be better to make sure it pumps by removing the hose and just pumping it a time or two allowing the fuild to drain into a cup. At least you'll know it pumps. Then move to the slave. Bleeder should be on top of the cylinder. Remove the teflon tape, not good for bleeders. Just my $0.02 |
Are you getting any movement at all? Or you just can't get the air bubbles out?
|
Is the master cylinder "primed"? Got any air leaks anywhere?
|
Didn't change out master cylinders and I didn't allow the fluid to drain out of the mc when I replaced the brg. Yes the bleeder is on top. The teflon tape is just to help me seal the bleeder threads during this process.
Not getting any bubbles, no movement on the brg even though I am getting fluid out of my bleeder hose. |
The master cylinder isn't below the plane of the TOB is it?
|
No the mc is about 6" above the TOB and the reservior is located above the mc but I have a hose that runs from the reservior about 2 feet long to the mc. . I does dip about 2 inches below the mc due to other obstructions but enters the mc from the top.
|
I don't know if the head pressure of the fluid would over come that dip....you could always try holding it way up above the M/C and trying it....
Other than that, I'm stumped too! |
The M/C isn't a lot smaller than the TOB should be 1-1 ?

The mc is a 3/4" Wilwood as recommended by McLeod.

Does it even move at all? Not even a smidge?

Clois,
I've re-read this thread and you don't mention if the pedal ever gets hard, or just goes to the floor after bleeding. If it goes to the floor, check to make sure that the pedal fully returns after each stroke. If the pedal is hard, but still no movement at the bearing, than you may have a frozen bearing or a clutch plate that is binding. Does the maker of the bearing have a shipping lock installed that you didn't remove? Just thinking out loud...... - Jim - |
Clois,
Did you bench bleed it before you put the TOB on the tranny? |
The pedal goes to the floor and returns. Never gets hard (may be a candidate for DOT #3 for Viagra). I did not bench bleed the TO Brg but I think I will tonight since I haven't done that yet. Additionally, I can stick my fingers inside my bellhousing and feel the brg and tell that the piston is not moving.
This is such a hassel and it really shouldn't be. Clois |
Clois,
The only thing I can tell you is your right. Somthing is wrong! Master pre-bled, three to five pumps period and you should be there. Especially with a McLeod. Wish you were here, between the two of us, we'd get it! DV |
I have had similar problems in the past with hydraulic clutch set ups. I have taken to pressing the clutch pressure plate forward so the bearing has more room to move during bleeding. This lets more fluid into the cylinder and get the pedal up faster. It does take two people and works better on an external cylinder but it may work on your set up as well.

GOT IT!!
Friday night I pulled my trany and bleed the TOB. Re-installed everything and then I moved my remote reservior and replaced it with a reservior that directly mounts on top of the master cylinder. I had the master cylinder bleed out in 15 mins. My only concern now is that my clutch does not engage until deep in the pedal but I think I can adjust that out fairly easily.
Thanks to everyone for all you suggestions and help. Clois |
