Roll Bar/cage
I'm wanting to drag race my big block cobra. What kind of roll bar or cage do I need ? 10sec and slower---?
9.99 and quicker--?? Does any one make these. Also, does any one have any recomendation on front and/or rear sway bars thanks RC |
Your best solution will be to check the rules governing your race venue--then locate a compotent Machine shop/ welding facility in your area and have them build/install what is required---some venues require full cages for "roadsters" others don't---FWIW

I'm also interested in suggestions about removable 4 point roll bars for road race open track days, but not neccessarily in compliance with any governing regulations. There was a car with this set-up at SAAC 27 California Speedway last year but I didn't get a chance to find out if it was stock or custom. To the best of my memory, it had side impact protection and was removable.

I'm running low 12s and the local track wants a six point cage. I went to another track and they told me that I just needed arm restraints. I have a single full width roll bar in the car now. If I remember correctly a car that fast will need to have the cage welded to the frame. I'm pretty sure that fast topless cars like yours will also need a tube that runs the perimeter of roof line.
I'm at the point where I want the bragging rights of 11's but don't want the full cage to detract from the beauty of the car. |
Rules.
RC,
Hi, A good chassis/fabrication shop will be able to fabricate a 6 point rollbar, 3" above your head. Good to 11.00 at NHRA tracks. You didn't say if you had a solid or independent rear in the car, anything faster needs a 9" solid rear end.The chassis shop will have to do alot of reworking to make your rear suspension hook up. Faster than 11 flat needs a full 10 point rollcage or a roadster cage welded in plus all the other safety gear, pick up a NHRA rulebook. Anything faster than 11 flat in a cobra[ short wheelbase] is just asking for trouble , you should be thinking of another longer wheelbase car to race for stability and weight transfer. Good Luck.
