I use a 195 in cooler temps , I have been warned that I need to keep my block at 180 to keep oil on the cylinder walls . I have tried a 180 but my aluminum radiator / 16 fan makes me use a 195 .
You may need to try out a few , then get a good one , some are made to get stuck in the open position

Most small block ...

Most small blocks run at optimum performance just around 200 degrees. With that said, it would seem that you should go with the 195 Deg thermo. However, I believe most small blockers are using a 180 Degree thermo; thats what I use.

I believe most if not all 302 efi's came with a 195 thermostat,I'd stick with that...... For a carbed engine,I run 180's....
