Tilton reservoir bowls?
I have a Tilton(Wilwood ) tri master cylinder setup for clutch and brake. Just finished putting a new clutch and trans in my car, as we're bleeding the hydraulic clutch cylinder we discovered a leak from the clutch reservoir--the plastic reservoir bowl has a crack in it and will slowy bleed out everytime the clutch pedal is depressed.
I've contacted most every automotive and speed/performance shop in the Seattle/Bremerton area, as well as Jegs, Summit and Speedway. No one carries them as an aftermarket replacement Item. Only in the complete master cylinder kit. Thing is I've already rebuilt all 3 master cylinders and really don't want to spend 60-70$ on a new master cylinder, just for a 4 dollar piece of plastic. Even on the Tilton website they only show the rebuild or full kit. Tried a couple of others mfgs types but they won't interchange. Anyone have any ideas? I'm at a loss right now |
Gary: There are a couple of sizes that Tilton used. What are the dimensions of the reservoir bowl? Can you post a picture? I MAY have a spare, depending on the size.

I just had to replace my Tilton Master Cylinder so I have a spare 4.0 oz. reservoir, Part number 74-202. The larger one is part number 74-204 which is a 10.7 oz reservoir. You can order them through T.O.E Performance Products in Suisun City, CA , phone number 707 425-2996. I've cracked a couple bowls putting them on... it helps to put them in some hot water for a minute or two before you try to push them on.

I've been through this myself. When I was installing the three cylinder reservoirs on my car, I managed to cut one of the o-rings. :CRY: Since only one o-ring was provided with each of the three units, I went to the local hardware store and bought the closest matching o-ring I could find. It wasn't as thin as the original, but I figured it would be okay. After several months of use, I noticed a leak starting to form at the base of the reservoir. I went to a local race shop and the owner had a box full of them. Like Richard H., he graciously offered one to me free of charge. Several months later, the new reservoir also began to leak, so back to the race shop I went. The owner again handed me a free reservoir. When the third one began to leak, I'd had enough and called the Tilton tech line to complain about the cracked reservoirs I'd previously had to replace. They sent me a replacement reservoir with a new o-ring at no cost to me. I've had no leaks since installing them. Apparently, the slightly oversized o-ring was the cause of the cracks. The best way, as Mike stated, to resolve an issue with a part is to simply call the company. 99% of the time they are more than happy to send you new parts at no charge.

I found Tiltons number this AM and called them--Larry one of the techs said they don't sell them but said he would send me what I needed, especially after I told him I'd just rebuilt all the cylinders, no charge said he'd ship a 4oz reservoir out today. No that is customer service. He also recommended TOE, if I ever had to get parts or replacements---Great response from a supplier in my opinion.

Roscoe yes it was but I hadn't been on-line be fore I saw any of the posts.
Now ----KUDOS big time for Tilton---not only did I recieve, today , SAT, a package from Tilton , that I didn't expect until next week, not just one reservoir but 3 complete with with caps and "O" rings--NO CHARGE---- WOW I've had my car at a mechanic's shop, who has done work on both my personal and business vechicles for a number of years, on a lift for almost 2 weeks--I'm not much of a mechanic but wanted to learn and the owner agreed to help me learn--replaced the clutch, etc., and put in a new transmission--the reservior I had was cracked didn't leak bad but leaked(weeped)---I had to get the car back together this weekend because my mechanic friend needed the lift Monday-- My wife , bless her, brought the package down, and we got everything put together. Runs and shifts better than ever. KUDOS to TILTON |
