filling up the diff
Going to put some diff oil in and have just a few questions to make sure i'm doing it right...
the diff is a 1990 Ford 8.8, and it is actually empty right now, and i just wanna make sure im doing it right before i fill her up... first, i guess im gonna put the gasket in and seal it up, but what are the torque specs for the cover bolts?, and is there a specific tightning pattern?... second, does anyone know the exact ammount of oil to put in there? and third, whats the best type to use? many thanks! |
Ride,
Use a thin bead of silicone around the cover, lightly snug the bolts then tighten in a cross pattern to 5 ft-lbs, then again at 20-25. Moroso Climbing Gear lube is good, like thin snot, very clingy. There is no exact amount, you'll need around 2 quarts, buy the gallon its not much more. Fill to the bottom of the fill hole. If you have an LSD, be sure to add 4 oz. of limited slip additive, Amalie and GM both make it. Use teflon tape on the fill plug. Best of Luck Jim |
