Can't Downshift Into 2nd

long story short. clutch slipping, had new clutch put in with a new lakewood bellhousing, ram diaphram clutch with metallic puck disk, tremec 3550,upshifts ok but cannot downshift into 2nd gear(all others ok) until about 5 mph or double clutch.

bellhousing was suppose to be fitted as per jack leg. before change had stock bellhousing and 3 finger clutch (don't know what kind). clutch slipped but all gears were available up and down shifting.

readjusted clutch after 300 miles but did not help.

any help

ken

Ken,

Sounds like a bad set of second gear blockers. However you may have a binding problem. Why not try putting the other bell back on to see if the problem goes away?
Good luck.

Are you sure you are getting full release of the clutch? My car had a Tilton 1"dia. slave cyl.It had either release or free travel but not both.I changed to a 15/16"dia. slave cyl to get a little more travel. Ilost leverage .Pedal might be a little stiffer.Three years ago I lost the throwout bearing which took out the finger in the clutch.Got to have free travel and full release is important .
