Air compressor filters??
It's been awhile since I used my air compressor, and I'm having a problem with water blowing out of my sander. I have a filter(one of those glass cartridge inline deals) that takes out water, but it's not working. Can the element(looks like some sort of stone) be cleaned? Replaced? Do I need a whole new filter(they run about $70. and I have less than 10 hours on this one)?
Also, in my old shop the compressor was out of the way. In my new garage, it's next to the car. The entire compressor get very hot. Is this normal? If not I may have a wiring problem. TIA |
It sounds pretty typical (the heat), and that's what helps generate some moisture, also an unheated area will also generate more. You may be over powering you separator. I run large ones every 6-8 feet and also line drains extending down every 15 feet or so. I also like to drain the moisture from the tank daily (at least every other day), if you don't do that, the filter couldn't keep up with it.

Scary thinking
Had moisture problems while painting a car - long hoses agravate it because the cooler the air gets the more the water vapor condenses out. Built a filter/sponge out of 4 inch pvc pipe with screw in sewer caps and air fittings on it - put two rolls of toilet paper inside - threaded the "rig" through one leg of an old pair of jeans for a scatter shield if it popped - fired it up and it worked great for about ten minutes - then hissss Booooooom - jerked the spray gun out of my hand - shreaded the jeans - and it snowed for a few minutes - what a mess - maybe there is a better way !
