engine number????
 
anyone know where i can find the engine number on a small
block ford 302?--92 block

Casting numbers are one the right side behind the starter. Blocks that have a serial number: the stamped number is on the top surface of the block, around the area of the intake/left cylinder head (fire wall end)

There's a small machined pad on the top rear of the block, right above the bellhousing, that has the VIN serial number of the original car stamped into it. The numbers are usually very faint and hard to read.
The engineering code for the block is cast on the block in raised letters above the starter mount. A '92 HO should be E7TE-xxxx-xxx.

thats great,i need the engineering code--can i see that number
with the engine in the car?is it accessable.

There's a very small possibility you can see it without removing the starter. Much easier if you just go ahead and take off the starter. Two bolts and one electrical connection.
