EM Hood Clearance Issues

On my Everett Morrison, (351W) I have installed a Weiand Stealth Intake, and a Road Demon Carb. I have a "Cobra" oval air cleaner. Without the Spacer between the top of the Carb and the bottom plate of the air cleaner, there is about 1/4" of space with the hood closed,.... BUT.....
The bolt heads on the bottom of the plate hit the float adjustments on the carb, not allowing the plate to sit down all the way on the carb.......

I was sure this intake was NOT TOO high.... (measeure twice, huh??)

Anyone have a similar issue, or suggestion???

I had a similar problem with hood clearance on my EM (351W with Edelbrock carb and oval air cleaner). With the standard spacer, the air cleaner hit the hood. Without the spacer the air cleaner interfered with the carb. I had to cut down the spacer .300" in order for it to clear both the hood and the carb. Sounds like your fit is even tighter. How many bolt heads are interfering? Do you need all of them? Can you move the bolt location?

I have an older EM It has an FE w a Dove 2x4 tunnel wedge .I had to trim the Stelling and Helling perferated rings that hold the foam element.Kind of a taper .One to the front and the rear to the rear. They do make a marks in the hood.It had old ,sagged motor mounts that were shimed at the frame enough to clear the oil pan to frame.

My Air Cleaner is the type that has a single 4bbl base, but the top has 2 bolts (giving the apperence of 2 carbs). The bolts run staight up through the cleaner on each end, and hold the top on with wing nuts.
The problem is the heads of these bolts (with out the adaptor, which happens to be TOO SMALL in diameter for the Demon carb anyway) lay directly on top of each Float adjustment on top the float bowls.

I COULD just get a different base plate for the cleaner assembly. May one with just the center bolt that comes up out of the single carb. (Although I like the looks of mine better).... but, functionally it won't work the way it is.

MODIFICATION:
The other thought was MAYBE,.... cutting into the bottom of the plate, recessing FLAT bolt heads. This MIGHT give enough clearence If I just make a gasket to fit between the Assembly and the Carb.
This would do away with the vent hose provision thats in the spacer and goes to the Valve cover,.... I guess I would have to make a provision in the base plate.

Why can't things "JUST BOLT UP" ??? :)

I had an oval filter, but it hit the hood. The best solution that I found were Edelbrock foam filters. They are only $20 each and they suck air right through the top which should work well with the hood scoop. To make them work I did have to relocate the carb hole (cut and weld) and shorten the front filter about a1/4". With my 2x4 intake the carbs are so close together that the filters hit each other.
