Accusump troubles....

Maybe you guys can help me with this...

I tried to set up my Accusump to pre oil a new engine and my valve did not hold the oil when I tried to pressurize the air end. I followed the directions:

-Depressurize the air end
-Fill 2qt Accusump with 1.5 quarts of oil
-Install electric valve (not EPC)
-Fill air end with 50PSI of air

At the last step listed.... As soon as the air went in, oil came out on the other side. We tested the valve before hand, we were only able to suck air through one side. Is this normal at first, or do I have a defective valve?

TIA,

Sounds like your valve may be backwards.
The valve, when off or on, should flow oil INTO the accusump when engine is running...SO even if you had the valve deenergized the Asump would ALWAYS still fill.

Maybe what is going on with you is the valve is reversed and oil is flowing out of the Asump when pressurized without the valve being energized.

The arrow points away form the Accusump body as prescribed in the manual. Also, it will hold oil when not pressurized.

I don't even have the Accusump hooked up to the engine yet... just the Accusump, the gauge, and the valve.

Mine did that too. The valve apparently needs some pressure before it closes. It sprayed oil across the garage and all over the wall, but then the valve shut. I was just glad I wasn't looking at the valve when I pressurized it.

Ah.....er......why don't you call Accusump and ask them?

I emailed them.... But it is much faster getting a response from a forum. I already have 3 posts from you guys and no email from them ;)

your preparation sounds different than what i did, which i tried to do following their directions. Empty, let the air down to about 7 psi in the A'sump. This is what becomes much higher pressurized when it is hooked up to a motor's pressure. Then, with the arrow pointing away from the A'sump, hooked it up. So, on my car, when i put electricity to the A'sump, it opens the valve, and the pressurised oil flows to the motor. It will fill if i turn the electricity off, as the electric valve has a one way inlet, if the power is off. With my engine running, the A'sump oil pressure gage will read the same as my engine's oil pressure gage, then if i turn the A'sump off, it holds the pressure until i want to pre-lube the motor before starting it.

I miswired it the first time, are you sure you actually have power when you think you should?

I was trying to prelube a new motor.... gotta get the oil in before startup! Thanks anyway...

All is well, hooked it up to the motor, then put in about 50 PSI with oil on the oil end. Flipped the switch... ahhhh.... fresh oil!!!

Works great! I love it! Thanks for all the help!

here is what I installed it in...
