Mustang II 11" Brake Upgrade, Company
I did a search and found all sorts of good information about upgrading to 11" brakes on a a Mustang II front suspension with 15" tires.
I'm looking at: http://www.mpbrakes.com/mustang2sr2.HTM $500 for a complete kit. Seems a bit pricey, but still looks like it is a well thought out kit and it doesn't move the wheels out 1/2" like some others. Comments on the kit (or other kits). What would you pay for a 13" or 12" set up that came whit a spindle that had a bigger outside bearing and an adjustable stirring arm for bumpstear. and it pulls the wheel in 3/8"?

I got the caliper adapters from TCI (Total Cost Involved or something like that) I then bought the calipers, rotors and pads from a local auto parts store. I used Chevelle rotors since my wheels had the 4 3/4" bolt pattern but they offer an adapter for the 11" Granada rotorwith the 4 1/2". Both set ups use a Chevelle caliper. I'm sure my expenditure was less than $300 for everything and they work just fine. Can't honestly say they stop the car any better than the 9" rotors but I think they've got to be better if for not other reason than the increase in both rotor and pad size. It was an easy morning's change out with just a couple unusual things due to my using the Chevelle rotor.

The spindle and hub will take a 11" rotors and a brimbo caliper too. I realize this is the upper end of brake stuff and not in everyones budget, but brakes are the one place not to skimp. These units could come assembled so all you had to do was instal the spindle. No fooling whit shimming the caliper or aliening the rotor or greasing the bearings. BillE

I have the Master Power brake kit on my 34 Ford 3 window. It stops real well, am happy with it. True, you shouldn't skimp on brakes, but, those other setups probably stop just as well. The owner at MP is a friend, so, I paid a little less than retail.

Thanks Bill, but I'm looking for a little less than top-of-the-line. Maybe later when I replace the upper A-arm (so that adjusting the front suspension is easier).
Thanks for the info Chris. I'm looking at the 1/2" that the Speedway brakes move the tire and trying to decide if I could live with the move. I also keep thinking about the alloy ones that Heidt's has. Sure do look nice... |
I have the Master Pwer kit as well. With the Wilwood remote master cylinders it stops very well consistently. Replaced the original MII system afet it faded to non-functional coming down a mountain pass. It remained that way and some others here recommended the MP setup. Not a bit of fade on the same mountain pass running harder.
