Ford Racing Valve cover question

Ok, I've got the "Cobra" valve covers for a carbed 302, with the breather on one side and the pcv on the other...my question is, there is a plate that is bolted onto the inside on the valve cover under each opening (breather and pcv) so my question is, do i leave those plates on? or should i take them off to allow air to flow through better...and also, does it matter which side of the engine the valve covers go on?...i'm thinking the pcv goes on the passenger side but i don't know for sure.

Those plates are a "baffle" under the openings to keep oil from being thrown up by the valves, by removing them you may experience a lot of oil weepage on your covers. The passenger side is generally the pvc side, does one of the covers have a riser tube?, that is it if it does. One of the covers should have a "twist-on" opening, that would be the filler.

I'm not an expert by any means just speaking from experience as my brother pulled them out of his Mustang covers and ended up very shortly with oil film all over his newly refurbished engine and engine compartment.

I don't know if mine are from the same manufacture as yours, but the baffle on the breather/filler has been removed to permit easier oil fill. PVC is in a gromet, and baffle under it left in place. No oil leak or vapor issues. My breather/filler is on the passenger side and PVC on drivers side.... and the moter doesn't care which side they are mounted on.

If they do not interfere with your valvetrain

I would definitely leave them intact. My 514 Ford Racing valve covers came with no baffling or PCV, etc.. I had major oil ejection problems until I got the baffled rubber grommets and my PCV system set up. I also had to dump the stock dipstick parts for an aftermarket type with ss braided tube and an o-ring dipstick seal, as oil was spraying out onto my headers with the stock unit! Now no oil weepage/ejection problem at all.

you should leave them in or you will have oil all over the engine. If you run roller rockers you will have to remove them or get taller covers.
