FE hydraulic roller lifters

Hi all.I have tried using Search to answer my question, but when I Search and get more than 1 page of results, the results freeze one Page 1 and will not allow viewing of the other pages. Anyway, to my question:
What hydraulic roller lifters for the FE are interchangeable with other motors?
My recollection from previous threads is that the FE lifters are interchangeable with the 429/460's and I have confirmed this with Crane and other mfgr's.
But what about other engines? Like the 6.9L and 7.3L Ford diesel engines or other engines? Would these lifters fit? They certainly are available thru many sources at prices much lower than the perf mfgr's. Even if they did fit, would they perform well enough in a 5500 - 6000 max rpm engine?
Or do you get what you pay for? Low bucks, low performance.
Not necessarily trying to skimp $ , just curious.

I've never played the 'mix and match' game when it came to cam and lifters. Always went with the manufactures recommendations and bought a matched set. I understand the reason to try to save a few bucks, but I think you're trying to save money in the wrong department when it comes to lifters. But I like it when someone thinks out of the box..... so if you're inclined to experiment, good luck to you.
