i'm getting off the subject a little here but what ever happened with your friend's 7000 series car with the brake problems? i'm interested in knowing what the problem turned out to be? thanks.......john

All the tests I suggested were while cranking, each to validate a specific leg of the circuit.

Jim,

One more thing as mentioned above. A bad battery will stop a good one from craking the car if it has a bad cell or so. Higher voltage from the newer battery sees the bad one as a ground and won't go through. So if you decide to try it without removing the old battery first, disconnect it. I carry one of the small portable jumper units in my cars and they work great.

Ford starter relays are externially grounded and it sounds like you have lost that ground. You can check it by running a ground wire from the relay to a good ground on the car. Then try to start
it. If the ground is good it should start.
