Drilling 1/2" Tremec mount holes
Question for everyone running a Tremec with a McLeod scattershield - Did you drill the mounting holes on the Tremec out by hand, to 1/2", or did the tranny come with the holes already enlarged?

You will need to drill them out, I just experienced the same problem. Bad news is that you have to sit there with a brand new 1400.00 tranny and you have to take a drill to it. Also before you put it all together, if you are using a stock ford clutch arm, it's going to be about an inch or so to short and won't stick out of the bell housing far enough to get your cable on. I had a welding shop extend mine to make it work.

Thanks for the reponse Terry. The McLeod instructions do mention that the tranny needs to be drilled. Which clutch are you using? Did you drill out the threaded holes in the McLeod adapter and screw the bolts into the tapped hole in the steel scattershield, or did you use the flat head bolts to mount the adapter, with the tranny bolts into the threads in the aluminum adapter? How deep did you set your ball stud?

I'm using a ford motorsports dual friction clutch and pressure plate, clutch p/n m-7550-x302 and plate p/n m7563-c302. The only drilling I had to do was on the transmission holes, and I'm not sure what adapter you are refering to. The 3550 bolted right up the the Mcleod bell housing. Are you using a TKO or a 3550? Everything else matched up perfectly and on the ball stud, I screwed mine down all the way, the nut on the stud had no adjustment. I've got everything bolted up and it all looks good, however I have not run the car as of yet. If there is someone else out there that has run into something I've missed please chime in, this is the first one like this for me as well

You must have Mcleod scattershield 8624, which is for short shaft versions of the Tremec. I have Part 8625, which includes an aluminum spacer designed for the long shaft versions of the Tremec family. I don't have my tranny yet, but I'm planning on buying a TKO 600. I don't know if long and short are both available on this new model. Sounds like you were lucky that you ended up with a scattershield and shaft length that matched.
