plugging heater hose outlets

I'm using a stock water pump on a 351w, with no heater in the car what's the best way to block off the heater hose ports in the water pump, and is it still necessary to run the short 90 hose from the t-stat housing to the water pump?

There a couple of ways to do this. Ford has available black rubber caps that will fit over the heater hose outlet that you are not using, they are secured with a hose clamp or you can drill and tap the housing for an internal hex tapered pipe plug. Regarding the bypass hose, most people use it. It equalizes pressure buildup before the thermostat opens. If you elect to run without thermostat (not a good idea) you can delete the bypass hose and related connections.
