Cooling Fan Problem

I have a FFR Mark II kit and have had my go-kart running for about 1 month. The original Spal Cooling fan broke after running the kart several times. One of the blades came off and nearly punctured the radiator. After disassembling the fan, I noticed that the blades had been hitting the fan support brackets.

I called FFR and they gladly sent me another fan. I promptly installed it -- this time with 1/8" thick washers between the fan housing and the support brackets, hoping to space the blades away from the bracket a little more. I ran the kart a few more times over the last couple of weeks with no problems.

Then, last night, after running the kart, I was putting it back into the shop and the fan started making a horrendous racket. After checking things out, I found that the fan had been hitting the bracket again and on of the blades was about to break loose again.

Has anyone else run across this problem? If so, how did you solve the problem?

I have thought about finding a fan with an outer ring supporting the blade tips. Another idea is to make a ring that mounts to the brackets at the blade tip diameter to keep the tips from hitting the brackets.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

King Kobra

The SPAL blades are quite flexible. I mounted mine with 5/8" spacers and have not had a problem in more than a year's use.

Do a search on ffcobra.com and you can find all sorts of solutions.
