Single turn signal indicator?

It would look to me as if the original "street" Cobras had only a single lamp for the turn signal indicator, how did they wire it?

I keep trying but all I get is that the circuit completes to the other turn signals and the small lamp on the dash acts as a fuse and quickly burns out.

I am using a system similar to this schematic from ERA, http://www.erareplicas.com/427man/wiring/stcol1.gif BTW thanks to an ERA owner for helping me with this.

Any suggestions?

Scott,

I haven't finished wiring mine yet, but I believe a couple of zener diodes will solve the problem. They allow current to flow only one way, so putting one in each signal indicator light lead before joining them should solve the problem. I got this info from the ffcobra.com forum.

Iwas thinking a diode might be the cure but I have forgotten how to pick the right ones. Air Force electronix school was a long time ago.

That diagram shows the headlight dimmer relay circuit. It's irrellevant to the signal lights.

You can get a single dash light to work by using a three-prong flasher. The third wire goes to the warning light. Much easier than the diode method.

As long as we're talking directional signals, I believe my Contemporary has the Volkswagen unit that the ERA uses (at least it looks the same as the illustration). To keep the directional signal unit from rotating on the shaft, it utilizes a special set screw with an extension on the end that fits into a hole in a small piece of stamped steel that presses on the shaft. Kind of a Mickey Mouse arrangement, in my opinion. It tends to loosen regularly. I plan on modifying the shaft to give it a better seat and would like a new set screw, as the hole is really augered due to too many tightenings in the past. [I hope I haven't lost everyone yet.] Anyway, I would like to aquire a couple of new set screws. Does anyone know where I can purchase these critters? Thanks, Rich.

Badrich: Orchard Supply has a pretty good supply, however the original will be metric, just rethread it.
