clutch install

I'm getting ready to install the clutch on my 428 FE. I read a mustang article that mentions 3 alignment dowels that insert into the flywheel to center the clutch pressure plate. ( I'm NOT referring to the clutch discc alignment tool) I don't have these dowels...are they used on an FE flywheel?

Three 5/16, very long, with a flat blade screwdriver slot in the top dowels that are installed at 120 degrees apart into the flywheel to align the pressure plate while putting the clutch together... type dowels??

Haven't heard of them.

If they are the same ones I used a very long time ago, take three 3" 5/16 bolts ( I think they are 5/16 ) bolts and cut off the heads ( or just leave them on ), cut a slot in the top of each to remove them after the clutch assembly has been secured to the engine.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like they are not a required part...I think the pressure plate bolts only line up one way.
