Leaking expansion tank
I have a contemporary classic 427SC. It has a 427FE center oiler motor. Have to replace the radiator expansion tank (it's leaking). Tank is chrome plated brass. Outlet to the radiator is 1-3/4" dia. on the passenger side. Height is 5-11/16" from top of the radiator cap to center of the top bolt hole in the thermostat housing. Can anyone recommend a supplier of this tank or a similar stainless steel tank?

Bob: I have a tank like you describe (Black not chrome). The thermostat mounting bracket was molested to adapt it to a smallblock by prior owner, however the undamaged tank can be unsoldered from the backet and mated to your bracket by a competent radiator shop. It's not a lot of work. Email if your interested.

Bob, I have one for sale in the "parts for sale forum". I included a photo. It's in perfect condition. My e-mail is not working so we'll have to talk here thru club cobra.
Thank you, Kevin |
Hey Bob, long time no see.
Finish line sells the tank in brass in kit form http://www.cobraaccessories.com/cata...9d54a8c1c43f00 I have seen the tank in stainless, a much better option, but can not place the source. I'll ask around at breakfast. Or maybe you could travel the whole 6 BLOCKS and come to breakfast!! Seriously, don't forget that the tank bracket has to be modified on a Contemporary to clear the hood. Sold my car yesterday Also I have an extra tank if you want it. Rick |
You have a couple of options. The tank Mr. Funfer2 offers is probably the most economical. I know ERA sells an upgraded tank, which is constructed (so Peter tells me) of a heavier grade material. If you are looking for an aluminum tank, I have a Dove unit sitting on the shelf which might be of interest to you. It has the externally-adjustable baloney-slice valve in the inlet neck which allows you to tune the flow through the cooling system. It's been modified to match the Cobra hose configuration (hose to upper radiator on driver's side). Note here: it won't fit if you have the "standard" remote oil filter which places the oil filter just to the driver's side outboard of the expansion tank, as the hose outlet was placed too far aft. If you don't have the remote oil filter, it should work fine. If you're interested, drop me an e-mail.

Expansion tank problem
Thank you for the advise and offers. I have purchased a stainless steel tank and modified it so it will not interfere with the hood. Hope to get it installed this weekend and back on the road. Appreciate your time and help.

I just found a polished aluminum unit for my car I have a photo of it in my gallery. I ended up relocating it to in front of the master cylinder. It is NHRA approved and looks really cool. The guy sells on e-bay.
