Default Holley 80529 VS 82750

What's the difference between a 4150 street HP vac sec, and a 4150 Pro Series HP vac sec?

Dave,

The 80529 has a single accelerator pump (30cc), four courner idle and jet extensions (to minimize to the effect of fuel running away from the pickups during accel/braking) and step down leg boosters for more accurate mixture.

Hope this helps,

I just installed the 82750 on my 331 this past weekend.

GREAT CARB!!!

All I did was set the mixture screws and drop the front float just a tad. Nothing else including the idle speed. It was right where I wanted it after I set the mixture.

Runs fantastic out of the box.

I know this was posted last year, but it is of interest to me.

Which would be a better choice for a steet car?

Motor is a 427 S/O
Comp Cam Duration @ .050 248
4 1/8 crank
Edelbrock performer heads
Blue Thunder dual plane intake
10.68 to 1 compression

Thanks.

CB,

Sounds almost like my set up.

BT Intake, Edel Heads (P&P worked on a little),Comp Cam 607 lift and 246 dur @50, Speed Demon 850, 11.1 comp.

However, I dynoed my engine w/ a Holley 950 HP and the 950 Pro series and we made a little more HP w/ the pro series but the main thing was it had a lot crisper response. My Demon falls somewhere in between the two Holleys.

I thought I might mention that my cam does not have very good street manors. Does not like to run under '3000 RPM. If I had it to do over again I would go back to my old cam set up, a 571 lift and 232 dur @ 50. Plenty of power and much easier to drive in town.

Clois

TTT

Anyone else care to chime in?

Thank you Clois.

Still want more input on the Holley 80529.

Thumbs up

Check out Holley's website. Tons of good stuff. I copied a PDF file that lists all of the part numbers (and sizes of stuff like jets, squirters, power valves, etc) for replacement parts for each part numbered carb.

CB,

Mr. Fixit gets credit for convincing me not go overboard on my cam, I ended up with Comp Cams .533 lift and 224 Dur @50. I don't think you can make an informed carb decision without considering vacuum signal. The step down boosters, four corner idle jets, and screw-in bleeds on the Prio Series are specifically designed for a weak signal. Beyond that, I have come to believe that tuning is a huge factor in the personality of a carb. Frankly, I'm a little suspect of carb A vs. carb B comparisons on this board. After many tuning changes my 750CFM Pro series runs great - street or road race - but I know that it can be better, so I will continue to tweak it. My advice is to buy something that has as much flexibility as possible, to compensate for various conditions, buy a tuning manual from Barnes and Noble, and enjoy the experience of learning how "old school" technology really works.

If all else fails (or maybe as a first step), call the Holley tech line, they're very helpful.

I agree 1000%. Also, buy some Holley books. At least get Dave Emanual's "Super Tuning and Modifying Holley Carburetors". After reading all of the book, reread it again. Then go and buy whichever carb you want/need for your application, and then tune it!

Old world tech will never go out of style completely, unless the politicians outlaw it
