Dave-About 40 or 50 Kzillion C-4's were made for FE's through the years. As mentioned above the proper approach to this thing is to match the trannys requirements to your engine and the car, together with a realistic vision of how you are going to drive the car.
My sons 84 pickup was a 302 that had a C-6 behind it. We converted it to a late 351 Windsor, what a pain in the ass. 351/400 modified engines had the same tranny bolt pattern that a 460/429 has. And both types of modified engines had C-6's and C-4's, some in mid 70's cars, some in trucks. Some trucks with six cylinder engines had a Windsor bolt pattern C-6 and C-4. The bottom line is there is a bolt pattern C-4 or C-6 that will fit ANY Ford Windsor, FE, Cleveland or 385 . That short tailshaft housing that fit C-4's that I mentioned above is a bit tricky to find though, but it is out there. Most high end tranny builders will know what I am talking about if you ask, if they have any Ford experience that is. Hint. hint. Tom, that housing is good to go for eliminating a blowproof blanket but to NHRA race with it you would still have to use a internal converter shield. They are nice for guys that like to use different types of trannys though, or for the weird conversion stuff. My COAN glide uses a adapter plate, that I also use as a midplate. cobrashock |
