I 'Wheely' Need Some Help

Howdy to all from Georgia! This might be a bonehead thing to ask for help about, but I'm not mechanically minded at all.
My FFR Cobra has 4 lug wheels and I want to put some wheels on it that are close to being period/Halibrands. I know about Compomotives, and their 4 lug look-a-likes are OK - does anyone know of anything else to mimic that look in a 4 lug pattern. And is there a 'sure fit wheel' application for what I'm looking for. I need some direction. You guys know the look I'm after - thanks for any and all help! RadioJay |

I have Team III's that I got from Finish Line in FL. I have five lug wheels and I'm not sure if they make four luggers. Check my photo gallery for pics.

I have never seen 4 lug GT40 style wheels but they be out there somewhere.
A better selection can be found in 5 lug patterns. Why dont you swap to 5 lug ford or Chevy pattern hubs. Even cheaper would be drill your 4 lug hubs to 5 lug. You may have to weld up the 4 lug holes to restore some strength to the hubs if they are lacking in meat between the holes or hub thickness. Should work for street use, I would think. John |
Your FFR can be upgraded to 5 lug fairly easily. Then you can get the 5 lug adapter and go for pin drive wheels with the knock offs or get the 5 bolt wheels. See the FAQ section at www.ffcobra.com for the specifics on the upgrade.

Thanks for your words - I'm looking into the 5 bolt conversion and wonder how much trouble and $$ it will be. You know how it is...does anybody know the bottom line on getting this done, and what kind of shop to go to? Thanks for all your help dudes! Jay |

As far as converting over to five lug rotors, it is so simple it would make your head spin. I am assuming that your factory five uses the mustang donor spindles. All that you need to do is to pick up a set of front and rear rotors from either the lincoln mark 7 or mustang svo/saleen that are offered on e-bay or at your local parts store. The axles you would need are the 5 lug ford ranger axles, as they interchange with the mustang axles perfectly. You can go on ebay for the axles or to a boneyard if you really want to save bucks, but you may not find pristine rotors there. I just converted my 92 mustang to five lug disks and it took me all of about 5 hours to do it myself. If you have rear drums, it is even easier, as the ranger axles and drums work. Pleae let me know if you have any questions about fit-up, I even have a set of svo front rotors up in my roof if your interested. That sounds great - is it really as easy as you make it sound? Replacing the front rotors - is this unscrewing the old ones and putting the svo front rotors in their place? As far as the axles, I have drum brakes in the rear. What tools do I need and is this a replacement-type job only? Do the replacement rotors you mention have the same dimensions as the ones I have now? I'm worried about the wheels sticking out further than or do now...I just want to be sure I don't do all that work and then say 'Uh oh'. Thanks, and if my questions are pretty lame please realize I'm no mechanic. Jay |
