I recently replaced my K&N 9" diameter by 2 inch high air filter for a larger K&N 14" by 3" high filter setup. I had been suspicious of the smaller air filter setup for passing air. After speaking to tech support at K&N I was told that the smaller air filter (9x2) will pass only 400 cfm, at best. Even though it looked more period correct, it was not good on a 418 stroker with an 850 Holley. The new 3x14 K&N setup with a 1 1/4" drop base allows for 800 cfm. It's a better breathing setup now and since my motor can only inhale just under 800 cfm at 6200 rpm, it's a good fit. K&N filters are really the best you can buy, in my opinion.

Headers are standard issue for your car, 1 3/4" if I'm not mistaken. My engine builder had a set of 1 7/8" diameter headers made by Doug's Headers in S. Calif to keep things flowing through the Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads at top end.
