Ford 9" rearend trouble!! HELP!!
My 9" is leaking so I naturally assumed it was the gasket, but someone told me to wipe the center clean and observe where the lube is coming from. It seems as if the lube is leaking out around the bottom stud and the next stud over towards the passenger side. I have done all of the normal stuff like checking to make sure they are all tight, and they are. Does anyone know if the back end of these studs go into the lube, and if so, what do I do to stop it? Do I try to take them out and put some teflon pipe tape on them? I have never faced this issue before and am looking for some guidance. Thanks in advance, Rob Burton |
Rob,
Do you have the nice little copper washers on the studs? Those are what keep it from leaking around the studs. |
I had the same problem on my 68 Fastback, so I got some o-rings, take off one nut at a time, roll the o-ring over the stud, pusing it up against the housing, then put the nut back on and tighten.
If this is where the leak is from, this should help. It's a cheap fix if it works, good luck ! |
The copper rings are cheap and will not tear. Your local Ford dealer should have plenty of them.

Thanks guys.....I knew someone would have the answer for me.
