Mike,

Do you have a old repair manual from the early 70's or late 60's? They show the system. If mot I would be happy to make a copy and send it to you by email

Do a search "wiring diagram" there are some diagrams posted that will be usable to you. An alternator with an external regulator is represented.

I started checking at the plug at the regulater.I figured that I should have one wire switched by the ignition switch.remembered I had installed a diode on the "I" terminal wire, nothing at tha plug , current on the other side of the diode .Had seats out so I could fit under dash and follow the wires and all.Removed the diode and tested, it still worked must have been in backwards turned around and reconnected TA-DA!

If you are interested, I have a print of a 60s Tbird with a four wire alternator in my photo gallery.

This may be able to help you with your charging wiring.

When I started the car on Monday evening the Voltage meter went over to 16V for just a bit then trimmed down to the 13- 14 V area. Now on Wednesday the yellow top Optima battery has gone to below 10V.The charger seems to be warmer than usual.Did I kill it? I thought that they were indestructable?
