What Bulb for rear lights?

Hey guys,

Couple of quick questions about the rear taillights I bought from Finishline. First, I must have misplaced the bulbs for the rear, are they the same as the ones used in the front turn signals? Second, the headlights and front turnsignal provide a ground wire, the rears do not. Do I attach a ground wire to the mounting screws and then to the chassis???

Thanks an advance

David

The rear bulb is an 1157. It may or may not match the front.

Ground the stud.

We use 2057. Same base as 1157, but brighter.

According to the spec's listed at donsbulbs.com, the 1157 and 2057 are almost identical, except the 1157's parking filament is slightly brighter.

I put a 2057 on one side and an 1157 on the other and stood behind the car to note the difference---couldn't tell any difference! Got a second opinion from the wife---same thing.

If you have Lucas assemblies, there are three loops to tie wires to: running or parking lights, Stop and/or turn and ground. The large brass looking loop is the ground. With the assembly face down and the ground loop at 12:00, the loop to the right is Stop/Turn.

All of the assemblies take 1157 bulb and have glass lenses. If you run 2057 bulbs on plastic lense cars, you may have a thermal event where the lense disorts or melts. But, if they are lucas and glass, the 2057 will give a marginally brighter ( viewed straigh in ) illumination.

Wire color codes are for the rear as follows: White is ground, Yellow is left stop/turn, brown is running/parking and green is right stop/turn.
