Need Part Fast!!!!
I'm looking for a Mcleod Modular Bellhousing Spacer #8703-12. This is an assembly consisting of 5 basic parts: 1) Motor plate, 2) Housing, 3) Cap, 4) Spacer and 5) Choke ring.
I initially ordered the entire Modular Assembly from David Kee. He phoned me yesterday (thanks for your impeccable service David!!!) to inform me that Mcleod is out of stock on the spacer #8703-12. I spent most of the day yesterday searching the internet for this part without success. I have money invested in a parking spot for the 10th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise and will not be able to drive my Cobra to it if I don't get this/these parts. If anyone has knowledge as to where/how I could obtain these parts, please email me (address in my profile). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks XXQQQME    HELP ! ! ! Red! |
Kim, I hate to sound like a block head, but what are we trying to do?
Maybe there is a temperary setup you can do until the parts are available. Is this a ford 460 to a Big I/O Toploader? Can a standard bell housing allow you to bolt the toploader to the 460? Why the need for these parts? I am sorry I sound like a nut, but I do not remember what you were doing that you got this far. I thopught you were having slave problems with your HTB. |
trularin,
Thanks for your reply. Following is the series of events that lead to my frantic thread request: Blew out seals on HTB. (no pedal stop, my fault, lessonl learned) Dis-assembled drive line, drive shaft, tranny, bellhousing, pressure plate, clutch disc, flywheel. Discovered that disc was soaked with brake fluid, levers on pressure plate were damaged and ring gear teeth severely damaged. Decided to replace damaged parts. Ordered and received parts from Mr. Kee (great customer service!) Upon re-assembly, It appeared that the Lakewood bellhousing would not work with the new flywheel. Note: the old flywheel had 184 teeth, the new one has 176. Lakewood bellhousing locates the starter out of position. I tried to turn the engine over with coil wire removed and experience grinding noises indicating that something was wrong, stopped immediately. I also took a "modeling clay" impression which showed mis-alignment between starter gear and ring gear. I found the correct parts at the Mcleod Web page, but as I mentioned earlier, it is not in stock. I was hoping Red at Mcleod might be able to resolve the situation. . . heaven knows I'm willing to pay. Anyway, I don't think I have any options in terms of a "quick fix" to get my car on the road for the WDC. Got any ideas! (magic dust!!??) |
So, if you have a stock 184 tooth flywheel, disc and pressure plate, you'd be in business. Not for racing, but to just drive.
Is that it? |
Perhaps. But at this point I'll take a chance on Stevie at Mcleod coming thru for me and getting the new spacer by Thursday. Even if I don't get it together until Friday, there is still a chance I can make it to WDC. I'm trying to avoid tranny installation and then repeating the task.
Wish me luck! XXQQQME, the eternal optimist **) |
