Lift-A-Dot install
I am currently installing a soft top using lift-a-dots. My question is regarding the post that goes into the lift-a-dot. My posts can unscrew from their base so they can be removed when the top is off.
Does the base just get pressed into a predrilled hole. It seems like they may pull out over time. I also have the posts that just screw into a pilot hole. Are those better? Thanks |
A nut goes on the backside or the self threading ones work well too. Use a minature fiber washer under each one on the painted surface.

I have tried the screw in type stud and as the stud gets tighter it starts to spin. Is there a special tool that crimps the stud as you turn it.
I also tried the removable studs that are threaded. Do you need a special tool to press the base in. very frustrated!!!!! |
We drilled out the holes and put nutserts in the body. It required some extra sanding to get the nutserts flush with the body, and we used the machine thread posts from cobra restorers. If you wanted to remove the posts, you can insert some stainless set screws to fill the holes. We had them in while painting the car, and i must say it didnt look bad.

All you have to do is tap in the nutserts?? I think I had some trouble because the first one I tried was in some thick fiberglass. I am sure the rest will be much easier.
Thanks |
There is a tool for putting nutserts in. You use the ones made for wood.
