Who knows Mallory Distributers?
I have a Mallory 38 series distributer centrifigal advance ,mechanical tach drive, Uni-Lite pickup dated 7-87. It's #3855301.advance seems to stop at 20°. They talked about Yh and YT advance systems I think I have something else Lh rotation is all I know. What can be done with this system to increase the amount of advance so I can reach desired total advance without going with so much initial timing? It seems to operate correctly otherwise.

All you ever wanted to Know about Mallory Ignition & Distributors. There is a lot of good information. Distributor Curves YL &YT http://www.centuryperformance.com/mallory/assm.asp Rick |
Almost the same type of distributor, I don't have the tach drive, I get 18 internal and 36 total. So, I set the distributor to 18 initial. I noticed a 2 degree drop when cold.
So, when cold it reads 16 degrees and when hot it reads 18. Car starts fine and runs fine. Matter of fact the NASCAR guy was over saturday and ran the engine up to 8800 RPM before I ask him to stop. It didn't miss a heart beat. Are you having starting problems? |
The web site was a major help .The picture of 38 series showed my advance system.YL The older stuff again.Do you think the factory curve kit would actually create the desired curve or do you think I'd have to test it on a distributer machine?Or just let the pros do it?
Also with the spark plug wires in the cap as before The hold down bolt is incumbered by the tach drive at 12° bftdc Any less advance and the bolt is burried. The drive gear has 15 teeth that works to 48° per tooth to resolve this perdicament, I think I'd have to relocate the wires in cap( 8 evenly spaced wires should move 90°) and try another placement, with the limited movement the Tach drive affords , I haven't thought of any other allternative. |
