Installing Remote Door Poppers
Has anyone ever installed remote door poppers on their cobra? I hate the idea of people leaning over my car to open the door. I saw a set of door poppers that can be installed and the doors can be opened by remote...has anyone done that? How is it done? What lbs solenoids should be used?

We have. It is not hard to do and can really freak folks out at a show.

Why not make the car you are building just the way YOU want it? If some one wants poppers why not? CD player? Alarm system? Powersteering? Power brakes? Heated seats? AC?
Why would any of it be a bad thing? After all it is a KIT car. Why build a car like every one else does? I am all for expanding the things done to KITS to make the cars uniquely our own? After all if we are going to spend that kind of money why not make it the way WE want it? Just one more point on this, can you say Ford, Chevy. Dodge, Toyota etc.. Seems to me folks have different taste in PRODUCTION cars so why not in KITS? |
Bruce, of course, you're right. My remark was intended for Roscoe only. I firmly believe people should do their cars however they'd like them.

Now that we agree that each person should build their car as they see fit, can someone recommend a godd solid curb feeler mounting point that won't interfere with my neon orange underbody lights? :D :D

Bruce, thank you for your reply and I would love to see how they were installed. For the record, door poppers would ease my worries about how careful passengers would be on getting into my car. I dont want to have to worry that each time someone leans over my car to open the door, they don't scratch my paint job with a belt buckle, jewelry, etc. Second, one thing I will never understand is why Cobra replica owners believe that making a cobra a custom car is taboo. I have power brakes and steering, I have heated seats and a completely custom interior. If I wanted a go cart I would have bought one. I took a car that I loved and added all the things that make the car more enjoyable to own. I'm painting the car deep plum with silver stripes, I added a porsche rollbar, 7" motorized LCD stereo system and loading it with neon.........to each his, or in my case her own.

Sounds like a wild ride. We did not use any thing to push the door open as the latch system did it for us. If you give me a call Monday I will call Dave, the guy that owns the car with all the remote openers on it, and set up a time for him to bring the car over or for us to go look at it.
If you stop by I will be more than happy to show you our demo car that my soon to be 70 year old dad drives most everyday. |

I installed remote door openers on my friend's Classic Roadster Cobra. Here is a link to the solenoids we used. They are very powerful and work great. http://www.watsons-streetworks.com/h...solenoids.html We used the Triogy 3 function remote system. It opens both doors and pops the hood. (one button for each) No complaints. http://www.watsons-streetworks.com/remotes.html Like Bruce says, the door latch action springs the door open. The Classic Roadster door uses a bear claw type latch, not the type that came on the origional Cobras. Steve:) |
