Fuel Filler Hose
Does anybody know if I can use regular old radiator hose for the fuel filler without risk of explosion, fire, $2.75/gallon gas spilling out onto the ground, etc. ?????
Down at the local auto parts store they have "Gas Filler Hose Especial" made just for fuel filler applications. This super special, highly advanced, gotta ask for it to get it, scientific hose costs $40........Radiator hose costs lots less, and if it works the same I would rather spend the extra cash at Starbucks, or on something that would make the car go faster...... Thanks! Jon Miller P.S. I just got a Halon fire supression system on ebay......That may figure into the answer somehow. Does a Halon refill cost less than $40??? |
No go on the Radiator hose, it will melt it after a little time have you every seen Radiator hose when it gets oil in it? it swells up and turns to goo. Try a boat shop they might have a better price.

The hose you need is available in several places including NAPA auto parts, any hydraulic hose supplier (that makes hydraulic hoses for industry) and race shops of which there are several in your general area. Be sure it is fuel rated. Vapors will permiate a non rated hose.

I went to a local marine store and got some coast guard approved fuel filler hose. Works fine.

Use Clear NASCAR fuel filler PVC. It works great and the price was cheaper than the marine tubing. You can get it here:

Jon, you can have steel tubing bent to carry the fuel and then seal the connections with SS hose clamps and any one of the above hoses.
I used silicon to lube the couplers and used 1.5" steel tubing bent at a muffler shop. It works, it's cheap and the steel takes paint well. Just a thought. |

Shell Valley carries the hose. Around $18-20.00 if memory serves me correctly. Joe |
