Install Ferrules??
Hi,
I am installing ferrules for my soft top but I don't know how they get fastened to the car body. The type I have does not use a nut. Right now they are just sitting in the hole I drilled. Any suggestions? Thanks Jim |
Jim:
ERA uses a snap ring on the bottom of the ferrule to keep it in place. Easy on, easy off. DonC |
Jim a picture or two would help.

It is hard to tell from the picture but the ferrules have fine groves. They are not threads.

Drill the hole slightly smaller, coat the ferrule or hole with slicone, the gently drive the ferrule in, the grooves on the ferrule wii grip the side of the hole, the silicone helps bond the ferrule.
I can't remember what size hole I drilled but I used a micrometer on the ferrule to determine its size then used a drill bit one size smaller. Taped the hole to protect the paint, drilled the hole then with a bit of care and a judicious use of a white rubber mallet I drove the ferrules home through the 'glas. |
Anyone:
Where can I get the ferrules like those in the pictures? Right now I just have holes in the glass and I think they would be a major improvement. Thanks. |
Thanks for your answer.
Visit the site below for the ferrules. Look under soft top accessories. It will upgrade your look! http://www.cobraaccessories.com/catalog/ |
Jams, If you already have the holes drilled and they are not going to be able to grip the sides as Gary described, I understand Gorrilla glue will hold them in place.
Careful, this stuff sticks and is messy, but it holds very well. Just a thought. |
