TOB fluid
Well, I just got my new flywheel and upgraded Mcleod hydraulic TOB installed. Trans is back in and tomorrow I will bleed the TOB and then test drive.
Is the Wilwood High Temp brake fluid compatible with the Mcleod seals? The first time around I used DOT 3 and it turned black pretty quick. If the Willwood will work OK then I would prefer to use that. Thanks |
Joe,
Any normal brake fluid should be ok. There is no reason for the fluid to turn black in the clutch system. If it turns black that means that the fluid is eating the "O" Rings in the TOB. NOT GOOD. I would disassemble the TOB and check the "O" rings for degradation. Of course you have the bloody thing bolted back together already, therefore I would just put in the fluid, bleed it, and drive it. If it fails. fix it then. |
Thanks Richard,
The TOB was upgraded free by Mcleod. They replaced the banjo fittings because there was a leakage problem with them. While they had ti they also replaced all O- rings and seal so essentially its a brand new TOB. I thought that excessive heat because of the TOB location was the reason that the fluid turned black. Thats why I bougth the Wilwood fluid w/ a 570 degree boiling point. I'll just use the Wilwood stuff and get back on the road. |
