Hesitation problem, Help!
I had to change the fuel bowl on the front of my carb a couple of weeks ago. Two days after changing the bowl I spent some time at the drag strip with some friends. The car revs up fine while at a standstill. At launch it had a real bad hesitation/bog happening. I believe that the changing of the fuel bowl is probably causing this. The only other thing that happened different as the day went on was that the car became harder and harder to turn over (the battery was dying), I needed a jump at the end of the day. I could use a little help trouble shooting this problem. Has anybody else had this type of hesitation under a load? The bogging at the launch felt like a fuel starving problem but with the dead battery at the end of the day I'm wondering if I have a small electrical problem somewhere?
Where should I start looking? The car only has a few thousand miles and the battery is only two years old. Could it be the alternator, battery, or ? Any experiences would be a great help. Thank you, |
Many times when you R&R the float bowl, the accelerator pump arm requires re-adjusting. You want to remove all the slack in the adjuster arm by adjusting the spring loaded screw/nut assembly that pushes on the accelerator pump lever.
Holley recommends that you have .015" at WOT. I have seen some cams that would not give that much, but you really need to have "some" clearance at WOT or you will eat the pump cams up quickly. Here's Holley's recommendation on adjusting the pump arm: http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/TechSer...fo/TI-221.html |
Thank you Randy. I will give this a try in the next day or so.
It seems since the only change I made was the fuel bowl this could very well be the problem. |
Chris - I just had another thought...
If you got the gasket on the float bowl backwards, the port that passes the fuel from the accelerator pump to the metering block will be blocked off and you won't be able to pass fuel. Easiest way to tell if this happened is to pump the throttle while watching the accelerator pump lever to see if it moves and the nozzles to see if it is moving any fuel through.. Good luck |
