Quad shocks?????

Anybody tell me what the purpose of these are and if I should or should not add them? The maker of my kit has them in the builders manual but says they do not reccommend them anymore.

Below is a quote from a parts supplier........anyone help??

Rear Quad Shocks. Genuine FORD!!

These are the rear horizontal stabilizer shocks. Most people never replace these when replacing their rear shocks. They do wear out and your rear axle is able shift during cornering and drag race type launches. These are brand new NOS Genuine FORD Quad shocks

Sorry guys, I had a "BRAIN FART" and posted my question before doing a search. I've since done a search and answered my questions.....Thanks, Earl

I am curious what your research turned up.

My impression is that that the second pair of shocks was to dampen rear end rotational hopping during launches. The short, angled upper control arms were intended to limit torsional movement as well as lateral movement of the rear end housing. This was supposed to eliminate the need for a panhard bar or Watts linkage. The arms were so short and the mountings so rubbery that they limited neither movement very weel.

The reason nobody uses the quad shocks is because they usually improve the rear end mounting design by improving the angle of the upper control arms (closer to parallel) and adding a panhard bar.

Or, according to some of the posts they use newer improved bushings and coil over shock set ups. From what I've read the newer bushings fix the problem and only cause a slighly stiffer ride.
