Clutch Rough
HI I HAVE A 428 WITH A TOP LOADER, CLUTCH IS NEW, PRESS PLATE IS NEW AND FLYWHEEL WAS RECONDITIONED. REAR IS A JAG WITH 3.54 TO ONE. IF I LET OUT THE CLUTCH OUT AT IDLE AND GET THE CAR ROLLING IT WORKS FIND. BUT IF I GIVE IT ANY GAS AT ALL THE CLUTCH IS VERY ROUGH AND SOUNDS LIKE THE REAR END WANTS FALL OUT? WHAT DO YOU THINK. THANKS TERRY

chattering clutch could be several things. Is it ceramic or organic? Could be the disk or pressure plate.

What is the history? Have you just changed the clutch or is this a new build? What parts are new to this situation?Do you have complete clutch engagement? Is there freeplay in the throw out bearing? One thought is that the clutch is slipping under power. It may pull under a lite load but when the power is appied it slipps.Did you put the disk in correctly.I've done that before on a mercededs truck .

THIS IS A NEW BUILD. CLUTCH, PRESS PLATE, AND THROW OUT ARE NEW. FLY WHEEL WAS TURNED. THE CLUTCH IS HYD AND I DON'T BELIVE IT IS SLIPPING. I AM THINKING WITH THE 270 FIRST GEAR AND THE 354 REAR THAT THAT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT, OR MAYBE THE DRIVE SHIFT ANGLE. BUT I DON'T KNOW, THANKS TERRY

What I was getting at is the throw out bearing applying any pressure to the presure plate fingers. If your sure the noise is coming from the clutch ,then taking back apart is likely. It is obvious that something isn't correct. The Clutch disk in backwrds is my next guess.

I suspect that the problem may not entirely be in your clutch. See here with special attention taken to the hub carrier bearing settings.
