rear coilovers
I am running a 9" with 4 bar setup the coil overs are aldan eagles they seem to be a vary stiff ride so I don't want to stiffen the springs if I can keep from it. The car bottoms on potholes and rail road tracks aldan says the shock travel of 3" is all I need on a cobra. It is set up with 1" up and 2" down just like aldan said to set it up. Any buddy read any good articles on rear coil overs? The car is a slabside with 302 weighs about 2500# and we drive it hard and long. My though is to give it more travel maybe 5" with a softer spring and stiffer shock. Any suggestions?

If it bottoms, your spring rate is not adjusted.
The coil needs to be loaded so the springs can do their job. I have the same setup. What is your bottom collar set at? What color are your springs ( strip on side of coil ) If you have 220 or 250, you may want to give yourself at least 1/2" of thread under the collar. Set the valving to four and give her a try. Best of all, you can call Aldan Eagle and ask for help. |
You say you have the same setup are you running shocks with only 3" of travel? And without bottoming? The springs are black. I did talk to aldan and they said to up the spring rate but the car rides to harsh now.

Don't take this wrong, but these cars are not Cadilacs.
You will need to up the spring rate if you have them loaded and it is not enough. What amount of threads are showing under the lock nut? If you do not have at least 1/4", you will be bouncing all over. Set it at 1/2" and see what you get. How are you testing this????? I mean, I have snow on the ground and you do not live that far away. |
After taking the coil-overs apart it was obvious that part of the problem is that the shocks are shot and after only 12000 miles. QA-1 has a unit with 4" of travel rather than 3" I think I am going to switch to them and reposition it for more compression. Aldan said they would rebuild the shocks but I don't want to do that every 12000 miles. How many miles do you have on your? Have you taken them off and checked the shocks? I was shocked-no pun intended. Thanks again for the help. Terry
