polishing alluminum wheels
 
I have PSE 16" HB look a likes with black centers and polished aluminum rims.I have picked up a rockor two and want to remove the dings and shine the wheels up . Any tools ,supplies , porcedures,recamendations? What did you use? Warnings?

Fwiw Mike I've had good luck polishing aluminum using Mother's products this on wheels and other misc. pieces, including weathered parts on boats. Also a product I bought called White Lightning metal polish seems to work very well though I haven't used it on wheels yet but have used it on some parts on my FIA such as the gas cap filler that was looking rather bad and it has polished it up fairly well with little effort.

Blue Magic Metal Polish, sold at Walmart. It's inexpensive, but works very well and is easy to use.

If you have some dings, just work the rough edges down with medium and then fine emery paper and polish with anything that has been suggested previously. They will look like they just came from PSE.:cool:

Blue Magic is the best I know of for finishing. I have used met-all for more rough work. Of course rouge works well also. But nothing I've seen touches blue magic for fine finish.

My arm is really tired and I've only done the outside of one wheel . I'm thinking about a phenumatic polisher. Griot's has a dandy for $139.00 .I think there are alternatives for less .Sears
has a CP720IP mini polisher kit for $99.Since I bought my Porter Cable random orbital polisher at Griot's Garage for $199.99,I later found it for far less elsewhere . I found The CP 720 IP mini polisher at Harbor Freight for the same price and a website for $108.95.Local tool town said they would have done it for $89.
Now I'm tring a Blue roll-lock pad on my diegrinder to start then 1000 grit wet paper,then the polishing cloths.The cotton wheel throws threads all over the place.
