engine compartment sheeting
Hi all y'all. Haven't seen a discusssion lately on engine compartment sheeting/lining/paneling and the Search function doesn't seem to be working (displays many pages available, but only shows page 1 repetatively no matter what page you try to view).
Anyways , I'm getting ready to make my engine compartment shine, and some advice is needed: Pros and cons of aluminum vs stainless Thickness or gauge of aluminun or ss Screws/bolts or pop rivets Dome head, large flange or countersunk pop rivets I plan to sandwhich insulating material between the sheeting and the footbox frp and I've gained a wealth of info from other posts. And all the great pics of the member's engine compartments have given me lots of ideas on how to install them. Any and all advice from this great forum will be welcomed. Thanks Greg |
After driving around for 4 years with brushed aluminum pannels in my car, i decided it was time to make it shine. Give me a couple of days and i should have my aluminum panels back from the polisher. I will post a picture. Once i get them back i will be sealing them with zoopseal before I reinstall them in the car.

I started with stainless but it was very very painful. hard to work with and finally went to aluminum .50 thickness.
I finished all the corners with angle and undert the aluminum I layed in cork sheeting I bought off a suplier. wasnt too expensive and I chose cork with addhesive backing to ease the installation. I only put cork arout the footboxes. I can send Pictures if you want! messed up the thickness not .50 lord thats 1/2 inch thick I meant to say .050 (big difference) |
What ever you decide to use you should fasten it using a washer or two in between the wall and the panel so air can circulate behind it. This will help greatly with heat disipation. I believe SPF have this on all their cars. Smart idea, IMHO.
