Question about anodizing

Does anyone know the method[s] for REMOVING anodizing [black] from aluminum?
Methods other than those involving acid-type dipping or so-called reverse plating procedures.
The object would be a final high-polished aluminum finish. [No it's not a Kirkham body!]
Thanks in advance for any help.

Believe it or not ....oven cleaner. The anodizing wipes off like you wouldn't believe. It leaves the metal with a dull flat finish. Try it on piece you won't be using just to get an idea of how the stuff behaves. The cleaner calls for rubber gloves and all that. I spray it 0000 steel wool but any rag or kitchen scrub pad will work.

A teaspoon of TSP in very hot water...put the part in and the anodizing is removed.

I have tried it...it works but I wasn't that impressed with the results as the aluminum then needs to be buffed.

Pat - Pardon my ignorance but what is "TSP"?
Thanks to you and Line for the help.

Well, I'm not Pat, but TSP is TriSodiumPhosphate. You can buy it in powder form at Home Depot, or most any hardware store. It'll clean just about anything off your driveway also.

Cleaning up the rim on an K&N XTreme air cleaner? If so, let us know how it turns out!

Roto Rooter in warm water and work fast. Gives a brushed finish.

RedBarch!
Funny you mention that. Today I blasted my K&N tops to remove that horrid black!
It's not anodize, it's powder coat. Very well applied and tough to remove. I may just clear the bare metal.
